The History of the FestivalIn 1996 the Chamber was looking for a signature event to call its own. The Chamber's first foray into an event was to schedule an African-American Music and Arts Fest at the Campus Theatre. Not wanting to compete with the Springtime Jazz Festival, the Chamber had a Gospel Extravaganza the next year, where choirs in Denton County and young up and coming Christian artists were spotlighted. In 1998 the Chamber deciced to have a Blues Festival. Since its beginning, we have had a number of Blues stars, such as Johnny Taylor, Little Milton, Tyrone Davis, Willie Hutch, Denise LaSalle, Bobby Blue Bland, Lattimore, and many others. People have come from all over, including the Dallas Metroplex, East Texas, and Oklahoma. We continue to strive to bring a great venue of talent to the Festival. |
